New drink for skinny girls
A new "diet" alcoholic cocktail drink from the US has entered the Australian market to be stocked by Woolworths Liquor, BWS and Dan Murphy's from tomorrow.
Skinnygirl Cocktails appeals to younger women that are conscious of weight, with serving sizes of flavours like margarita and cosmopolitan claiming to have about 100 calories a serve.
The brand has a celebrity kudos attached, having been developed by Bethenny Frankel from reality TV shows, “The Real Housewives of New York City”, “Bethenny’s Getting Married” and “Bethenny Ever After”.
“Woolworths Liquor, BWS and Dan Murphy’s are excited to add Skinnygirl Cocktails to our spirits range just in time for summer and we expect them to fly off the shelves, like they did in the US," says Steve Donohue, GM of Woolworths Liquor Group Buying.
“Ever since Bethenny’s TV series came to Australia customers have been asking us when we are going to stock Skinnygirl cocktails, the demand has been overwhelming."
The drinks claim to be natural featuring just fruit flavours and liquor, with agave sugar used to sweeten the taste.
The average calories quotient of comparable drinks is estimated at 200 calories a serve.
Those preferring to make low calorie drinks over the festive season themselves can consider other options, like 80 per cent proof vodka which is lower in carbohydrates and sugars than lower quality vodka.
