Ladies shooting lunch
Tweed, wild game, and... ladies who shoot their lunch?

That's a new event idea for meat eating gourmets that's currently selling tickets in Melbourne.

It sounds like a recipe for a PETA-induced disaster, however, the March event is actually focused on an artisan wine designed to match with wild game.

The label, Ladies who Shoot their Lunch, is hosting the party at Killeen Barn in Longwood, Victoria, as part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival .

The event will showcase the wines alongside various game meats and premium local produce from the Strathbogie Ranges.

There's no live animal shooting, but for a few hundred bucks guests will get live music, a clay target shooting display, game and cooking demonstrations, and prizes for the ‘best tweed attire’.

There will also be a surprise parade of the four legged variety: think of a scene from Downton Abbey!

Triple Commonwealth Games skeet shooting gold medallist and Olympic hopeful Lauryn Mark is hosting the day.

"Having an Aussie Olympian at our event offers guests a whole new level of excitement on top of an already fun packed schedule and brings Ladies who Shoot their Lunch to life through a shooting demonstration," says Matt Fowles.

A keen shot and the brain child behind Ladies who Shoot their Lunch, Matt hopes his ladies will hold their own against Lauryn.

"It’s not every day we go head to head with a shooting champion but I’m sure my wife and our Communications Manager, both keen lady shots, will hit the mark – well, hopefully put a few points on the score board at least!"

With a dress theme of ‘a touch of tweed’, guests will be taken on the historic Art Deco Spirit of Progress train to the Fowles family’s heritage listed Killeen Barn in the heart of the Strathbogie Ranges.

Sitting down to what has been dubbed the ‘longest game lunch in Australia’, guests will enjoy a delicious menu of locally sourced produce including rabbit, local trout, venison and quail served with matched wines.
