Eat Australian on Oz Day
Banana growers through to prawn farmers across Australia are getting behind a campaign in aid of locally made produce.
The fairly self-explanatory “Eat Australian on Australia Day” campaign is urging Aussies to consider what it took to get their food to the table this January 26.
AgForce president and campaign spokesperson, Brent Finlay, says growers should be proud their industries are working hard to help consumers realise how food gets on their dinner plate.
Amongst those behind the campaign is: the Australian Banana Growers’
Council, the Australian Prawn Farmers Association, Cotton Australia, the
Queensland Dairyfarmers Organisation, the Tasmanian Farmers &
Graziers Association, the Queensland Farmers’ Federation and AgForce
Queensland.
“After experiencing some of the worst climatic events in our history, Australian growers deserve to know they are being appreciated," says Brent.
“Their work and their efforts are highly valued among the Australian community, and this is a terrific way to show it."
Joanne Grainger, president of the QFF, says that given it was the Australian Year of the Farmer, it was an especially important time to recognise the contributions of the agricultural sector.
“This Australia Day, whether people are enjoying wine, beer, a barbeque or a salad, Australian farmers are responsible for producing quality food, fibre and beverages for all Australians," she says.
“Australia Day is a perfect time for us all to be patriotic and support Australian farmers.” |
